A few RC3 chicks took the opportunity to escape the Phoenix heat on labor day weekend and run in Oregon in the Willamette Valley region. We did Destination Races Wine Country Half Marathon. It's was so wicked hot this August that we decided to get out of town and head to Prescott for one of our long runs. RC3 chicks did this a couple years ago on the Peavine trail in Prescott. We also did the Peavine this year however we went a little farther by taking the connecting Iron King trail. The inaugural Women's Half marathon that started in Scottsdale and ended in Tempe turned out to be a nice local event. The RC3 chicks had some super results. Susie Kramer came in 13th overall and picked up a nice trophy and Oakley sunglasses for finishing 3rd in her age group. September 25th was the Javelina Moonlight Run. It's meant to be a pre Javelina Jundred training run but I used it as my last "long run" before the Nike Women's Marathon. On Saturday, August 28th some of our Chicks (and Rooster runner Mark) enjoyed the cool weather in Prescott. They were at Run for the Creeks. Per Kim R, it was a nice trail run along Willow Lake. It was the 2nd annual, supporting the Prescott Creek Preservation. The Napa to Sonoma half marathon was on July 18 starting in beautiful Napa at the Cuvaison Winery. Susie K, Darris, Syndie and I ran down two lane roads surrounded mostly by grape vines and vineyards. We finished in the town square in Sonoma. What a nice race this is. The scenery and weather were perfect. The RC3 superstars represented and all the girls (with the exception of myself) had a PR.

The weather couldn't have been more perfect for the inaugural Cave Creek Trail Run. It was cold at the start but near perfect running temps and sunny for the race. The course is on primitive trails that go through State land that the City of Cave Creek is trying to purchase for preservation. I think I can speak for all the RC3 Chicks who signed up when I say we all felt this was a worthy cause.

Hard to believe that last weekend some of us Chicks were at Tucson doing lots of running. Kim, Claire, Bridget and Susie did the half marathon. Kim, Claire and Bridget all finished together and I understand they improved by almost a half hour from PF Chang's last January. World Run Day was November 8th. It's an event set up for runners to take a day to recognize and run for their charity of choice. RC3 chicks had various charities and run distances. Like I told my RC3 "Peeps" when I got back from Moab— only two words for the Moab "Other Half Marathon"—LOVED IT!!! Things that made it great:Location, location, location... Some of the RC3 Chicks put it all out there in the Arizona heat to participate in their first running event—the ARR (Arizona Road Racers) I-Did-A-Green-Run. Thought I'd share a few photos the spouse took of me running my 15 mile long run in Michigan. I ran from my Parent's farm in Fitchburg thru Leslie and finished up at my high school friend's house in Onondaga (Audrey). She fixed me an awesome waffle breakfast. Six of us did a road trip this am to Prescott to run on the Peavine Trail. All of us agreed that it was a really fantastic running trail and we'll be going back for sure. We ran eight miles today. The Peavine Trail is 5.2 miles long but you can make it a much longer run as it connects with other trails around Watson lake and to Prescott valley. This would make a great place to do longer marathon

The nice thing about our RC3 Chicks is that we have diversity in our daily lives and jobs. Trish is finishing out a degree in holistic healing and was featured on the local news this a.m. demonstrating doggy acupressure. I spent last Saturday in Michigan cheering Kayla on in the 800 meter race for the division 3 state finals. Kayla is a sophomore at Leslie High School. That alone is a pretty great accomplishment as most of the runners are juniors and seniors. She placed 4th in her heat and 14th overall. Some of our RC3 girls participated in the Dirty 6 Mud Run on April 25.  I think it will have to go on the calendar for next year.
